Theatre & Concerts

The arts community in any city provides a unique and inclusive experience. Frequently, hosting many visitors and supporting many employees requires appropriate communication accommodations. Partners Interpreting is honored to help theatre and concert coordinators by providing sign language interpreters and caption services for your attendees and participants.

Theatre

Due to the nature of theatre work, sign language interpreters require specialized experience. First, we determine which level of service the Deaf and Hard of Hearing person requires in relation to the production. During a consultation, our coordinators will help determine the appropriate level of service. Although all services require “prep” materials (such as the script), the level of pre-show prep is more in-depth for a fully accessible production. It can include the interpreting team attending rehearsals, translation work, etc. Our interpreters have experience with small school plays and private production company performances, including working with the most prominent theatre venues across New England and Eastern Tennessee.

  • General communication access. Examples include but not limited to:
    • K-12 school plays where the Deaf/Hard of Hearing parent is the audience member attending
    • Deaf or Hard of Hearing student attending a performance
    • Deaf or Hard of Hearing attending a production and the family member is part of the production team or performing
  • Full accessible production. Examples include but not limited to:
    • General access open to the public with designated ‘interpreted shows’

Although BOTH services require ‘prep’ materials (such as the script) the level of pre-show prep is more in-depth for a fully accessible production and can include the interpreting team attending rehearsals, some translation work and more. Our interpreters have experience with small school plays, private production company performances including working with the largest theatre venues across New England and Eastern Tennessee.
