Deaf Interpreter Training
Monday-Friday, June 12-16 from 8:30-6pm
Tennessee School for the Deaf, 2725 Island Home Blvd, Knoxville, TN
Have you always been curious what it takes to become a Deaf Interpreter? Our Deaf Interpreter Training is coming to Knoxville, TN from June 12-16, featuring a 40-hour workshop with a focus on enhancing your skills and knowledge as a Deaf interpreter. This workshop is specifically designed for Deaf individuals, running Monday through Friday at a cost of $550 for individuals and $750 for organizations. Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing who complete the workshop will receive 4.0 CEUs. TRID is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for continuing education activities. This Professional Studies program is offered for 4.0 CEUs for Deaf Interpreters and 1.6 for Hearing Interpreters. CEUs at the Some Knowledge Level.
But don’t worry if you are a hearing interpreter and want to attend this incredible event! There is also a Thursday-Friday portion open for you to join us! The cost is $225 per individual and includes 1.6 CEUs. Lunch will be provided for all attendees, and there will be ample opportunity to connect with a 1 hour lunch break and two 15 minute breaks during the day.
Don’t wait to secure your spot, as space is limited to only 12 seats for Deaf Monday-Friday and 12 seats for hearing interpreters for Thursday and Friday
Meet Our Presenter: Keven Poore, MA, CDI, CASAC II
Keven Poore, MA, CDI, CASAC II is the Director of Substance and Addiction Intervention Services for the Deaf (SAISD) at NTID. He began working there in June of 2017 after 7 years as a full time freelance Certified Deaf Interpreter in the Philadelphia area. He received his Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Gallaudet University and has provided mental health and chemical dependency services for 20 plus years.
He has provided workshops on interpreting – primarily on Behavioral Health interpreting, Deaf Interpreting and Deaf/Hearing Interpreting Teams. He was the content expert in two online modules, one with CATIE Center’s Introduction to Addiction and Recovery Interpreting and the other with Northeastern University’s Center on Atypical Language Interpreting (CALI). With CALI, he is a facilitator for the Supervising Partners Module as well as one of the facilitators for CALI’s Practical Application Virtual Experience (PAVE). Keven also is an instructor for NTID’s Certificate in HealthCare Interpreting program and Certificate in Deaf Interpreting program. He is also the co-chair of the Test Development Committee under CASLI.
